SOUTHERN-Images is an excellent location for the display of top quality photographs of our national heritage. Hundreds of individuals and organisations visit our site and are able to search for particular images and to buy those they require for private or commercial usage.

 

We are always pleased to consider images of suitably high quality for display on our website.

 

Please note, Images can only be accepted if they meet our standards and will add to the overall quality of the website.

 

We pay generous royalties for each photo sale or reproduction/commercial fee negotiated.

 

Our terms and conditions are as shown below.

Terms and Conditions

(These terms and conditions apply to accessions from November 2009 onwards -  previous conditions may apply to images acquired at earlier times.)

 

  1. Any negatives /slides/ photographs accepted for use on the website remain the property of the owner.
  2. The copyright of all images placed on the website remains with the owner of the negative/ slide/ photograph.
  3. All images placed on the website become part of the SOUTHERN-Images collection and will be detailed and captioned in the  

      following manner …..© Owner’s Name/SOUTHERN-Images

  1. The images will remain on the website until such time as a) the website ceases to operate or b) the owner of the images requests their withdrawal from the site, whichever event occurs first.
  2. We can only accept images supplied in the following format.

Ø            Negatives/slides/photographs must to be supplied to us as digital images,  comprising high resolution jpg images (Quality Option at least setting 10 in Photoshop (12 preferred)).

Ø            They must be adjusted to appropriate contrast and overall brightness, and be presented with no blemishes such as scratches, dust spots etc.  (i.e. fully cleaned at 100%)

Ø            Images must be 3000 pixels x 2000 pixels @ 300 dpi, with full caption information (in our house style)  and photographer’s details inserted in the File Info section. (If you are not able to provide your images as required, we may be able to carry out the work for you at reasonable cost-see below)

  1. The ownership of the digital images and the copyright remain with the owner of the original material, but the composition of any web page on the site containing the digital image becomes the intellectual property of SOUTHERN-IMAGES and is fully protected by copyright.
  2. Royalties will be payable to the copyright owner for all images sold as photographs or other products, and in respect of any commercial or reproduction rights sold.
  3. If the owner of the images wishes to withdraw them from the website, three months notice in writing must be given.
  4. Currently*, royalties are paid as follows:
    1.  Photographs size 7.5” x 5” and larger  :                            40 % of item selling price   
    2. Smaller photos,  digital images and duplicate slides ;     10p per item
    3. Speciality products  e.g. mouse mats,  framed photos : 5% of item selling price
    4. Reproduction fees and other commercial uses :               50% of actual fee paid to us
  5. Statements of sales and fees earned will be provided at regular intervals and any payments due made at the same time by cheque to   the last known address of the image owner.
  6. The owner of the original material must confirm in writing that they are the copyright owners thereof and indemnify us against any actions   resulting from failure to attribute copyright correctly.
  7. All original material will be sent by Special Delivery  to the owner and we recommend that the owner uses the same method when sending  material to us.
  8. Every possible care will be taken of original negatives /slides / photos while in our possession, but we cannot accept any responsibility for any damage or loss no matter how caused.

 

Scanning of Negatives, Slides and Photographs and editing for use on website

 

A number of reputable firms are able to provide a scanning, cleaning and adjusting service for you so that your negatives/slides/photographs are converted into the format we require,

 

As a service to our contributors., subject to capacity, we are able to carry out the high quality scans needed to meet our exacting requirements- the images are scanned, then adjusted for colour, contrast and brightness, spotted to remove blemishes and scratches and cleaned to 100%, or repaired if necessary, sharpened and saved as digital jpg files

We supply the contributor with a complimentary 7.5” x 5” glossy photograph from each image.

 

The cost of this service is currently* £8.99 per negative/slide or photograph, payable in advance.
